Opening For Jay-Z (Sort of) at Barclay's Center
BrooklynParrots.com's Steve Baldwin participated in a musical protest outside the Barclay's Center this Friday, September 28th. This protest was part of a musical teach-in for Jay-Z's fans and others who gathered at the arena's opening. The purpose to was to surface issues pertaining to Barclay's Bank, the unfulfilled promises of the Center itself, and to ask the musical question of Jay-Z: "Which Side Are You On?" It was a nice event and Guitarmy (an organization in which Steve is a Squad Leader) did a lot of community outreach. We even performed a Jay-Z parody song based on his "In New York" recording; new lyrics include "Down at Barclay's, this rusty arena is kind of obscene, yeah." NBC covered the opening; the music begins about 1 minute in. The event was also covered in The New York Times and on Gothamist.com.
