Talking Parrots (including "The Brooklyn Boids") Featured in the New York Times
I was very saddened to hear of the death of Steve Irwin, a naturalist who did much to make the public aware of environmental issues in his native Australia. It's a terrible thing to lose such a man, but the lesson of his life is clear: one person with a passion can make a huge difference in this world. So let's celebrate Steve's wonderful life, and smile at how much good he did for our fellow creatures.I never had a chance to meet Steve, but I recently had the pleasure of meeting an amazing Australian naturalist, who, like Steve has worked tirelessly to improve the prospects of wildlife across the world. His name is Dr. Joseph Forshaw and he's widely regarded as the world's foremost authority on parrots. I had the honor of serving as his "guide" when he came to see the wild parrots of Brooklyn.
The New York Times wrote up a nice story on Dr. Forshaw in today's issue; you can read it at the following link:

The Times also put together a great 3-part video containing Dr. Forshaw's comments with Times Science Writer Claudia Dreifus. I am glad to say that there are some great shots of the "Brooklyn Boids!" You can view the video here:
